Kris Lin, a renowned designer, drew inspiration from the traditional Chinese ceremonial sceptre, Ruyi, which symbolizes good fortune and respect. The Ruyi's unique shape and cultural significance served as the foundation for the design of this exhibition center. The structure is not just an architectural masterpiece, but also a symbol of friendship and prosperity, reflecting the essence of its namesake.
Located in the Longhu Financial Centre in Zhengzhou, China, the Ruyi stands out for its unique design and strategic location. The Financial Centre is connected to the CBD of Zhengdong New District through a 3.7-kilometer-long canal, forming a Ruyi-shaped financial headquarters area. This design, therefore, serves as a landmark and a business card for the city.
The construction of the Ruyi is a testament to modern technology and innovative design. The structure is made of steel, and its facade is covered with white aluminium plates. Each plate is processed into curves with different arcs through precise calculations, resulting in a streamlined shape that embodies the charm of the Ruyi and a sense of modern technology.
The project, which started in April 2019 and was completed in February 2020, faced several challenges. The most significant was achieving the curved shape of the facade. However, through meticulous calculations and the use of modern construction methods, the team was able to overcome this hurdle and bring the design to life.
The Ruyi has received global recognition for its innovative design and cultural significance. It was awarded the Platinum A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, a prestigious honor that recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs. This award is a testament to the Ruyi's contribution to art, science, design, and technology, and its role in enhancing societal wellbeing.
In conclusion, the Ruyi is more than just an architectural structure. It is a symbol of prosperity, a testament to the fusion of tradition and modernity, and a beacon of innovation in design and technology. Its unique design and cultural significance make it a landmark in Zhengzhou's Longhu Financial Centre, and a symbol of the city's growth and development.
